Words about selling
- Ticket type — one kind of ticket you are selling, with its own price and its own number available. "Early bird" and "VIP" are ticket types.
- Allocation — how many of a ticket type you made. This is the real limit on how many people can come.
- Sale window — the dates a ticket type is on sale between. Early-bird pricing is really just two ticket types with different windows.
- Face value — the price on the ticket, before any fees. This is the number resale rules are measured against.
- Hold — tickets set aside for someone while they are paying, so nobody buys them out from under them. If they do not finish, the tickets go back on sale.
- Waiting list — the queue for a ticket type that has sold out. If one frees up, the next person in line gets a short window to claim it.
Words about money
- Platform fee — what Tiqstar charges: 7% of a paid ticket. Free tickets cost nothing.
- Processing fee — what the company handling the card payment charges. It is different in each country.
- Who pays the fee — for each fee you choose one of two things. Absorb it and the fee comes out of what you receive. Pass it on and it is added to what the guest pays.
- Gross and net — gross is before fees, net is after. What reaches your bank is the net amount.
- Balance — what you have earned so far and not yet moved to your bank.
- Payout — moving money out of your balance and into your bank or mobile-money account.
- Disputed payment — when a buyer complains to their bank instead of asking you for a refund. That money is held until the bank decides who is right.
- Held payment — when you book a vendor, we keep the money safely until the job is done, then pass it on. Neither of you can touch it in between.
Words about the door
- Check-in — a ticket scanned and let in. Every ticket lets one person in, once.
- Scan result — what the scanner decided. It is one of five things: let in, already used, wrong event, not a real ticket, or cancelled.
- Manual look-up — letting someone in by finding their name or order number, when their phone has died and there is no code to scan.
- Offline scanning — the scanner keeps working with no phone signal. It stores the scans and catches up when the signal comes back.
- No-show rate — tickets you sold, minus people who actually turned up. This is the number to look at when deciding how many to sell next time.
Words about accounts
- Guest — what every account starts as. You can browse, buy and hold tickets.
- Creator — approved to put on events and sell tickets. You apply for this.
- Vendor — approved to offer services to creators and take bookings. You apply for this too.
- Gate staff — someone you add to one event so they can scan people in. They see that event and nothing else.
- Verification — the check we do on who you are, or who your business is, before we send you money for the first time.
